Tools I Built

Tools I Built

I built internal tools to automate repetitive workloads, improve the user experience, and make PlanMyFun easier to operate and grow.

Instagram Event Scraper

Built a scraping tool that scanned an Instagram post, pulled out the key event details, and translated them directly into a structured event in our database.

• Built in Python / FastAPI and packaged in Docker
• Accepted source URLs through a /extract?url=… endpoint, parsed structured/unstructured event data, and returned normalized JSON
• Mapped fields into a consistent event schema covering title, date/time, pricing, location, organizer, category, tags and source metadata

Content Machine

Content Machine

Built a Python-based content system that pulled upcoming events from the PlanMyFun API and turned them into branded social output.

• Python orchestrator + Pillow (PIL) rendering pipeline for generating branded carousel assets from live event data
• API-driven filtering and run modes for daily, weekly, weekend, seasonal, campaign and Toronto-area content
• Google Sheets + Claude integration for structured event output and automated caption generation

Motion first. Toronto at heart.

Motion first. Toronto at heart.

I designed a custom animated experience that unfolds over a few seconds, using motion as part of the storytelling rather than decoration. The idea was to make the first interaction with PlanMyFun feel unexpected and memorable - then root that experience in a playful visual tribute to Toronto and the city the product was built for.

Then the content became part of the product.

I produced Toronto event roundups, product explainers, launch videos and local discovery content — building an audience around the same problem PlanMyFun was solving.

PlanMyFun ultimately didn’t become the business we hoped it would. But it gave me the opportunity to take a consumer idea from a cultural observation, through product design and launch, into the App Store — and then figure out how to make strangers find it.

That’s the part I’m proud of.
